Donna Brazile?s column in Wednesday?s (2/6/13) ?The Citizen?,? www.citizen.com, is typical of liberal writings, an attempt to mislead the American people.? Brazile inappropriately interweaves legal and illegal immigration benefits and falsifies immigration enforcement effectiveness.
Immigration laws have not been changed because the American people believe in the rule of law and in real ?Fairness?.? It would be wrong for people to benefit from their illegal immigrations.? And, it would not be FAIR to the people trying to come to this country legally (often waiting years or decades).
Brazile tries to assign the benefits that legal immigrants bring to this country (e.g., working legally without burdening taxpayers, starting businesses, paying taxes, assimilating into our country and culture) to illegal immigrants.? That, of course, is false.? On average each illegal immigrant annually costs taxpayers about $11,000 worth of medical, housing, food, and other benefits intended for needy Americans citizens.
Illegals harm American workers by undercutting their wages and taking their jobs.? Illegals commit a disproportionate amount of crime, harming legal residents.
Nevertheless, some politicians? careers benefit from illegal immigrants (they ignore what is best for our country).? They get: campaign contributions from employers and unions which benefit from illegal labor (which has little recourse for mistreatment); votes from the unemployed who support politicians promising more benefits; campaign workers, demonstrators, and illegal and potentially future legal votes from an illegal immigrant community which wants the benefits of our country without having to abide by our laws and customs.
The ?Gang of Eight? Senators announced agreement on principles for immigration reform.? A few days later Senator Schumer announced that a key item, border control, wouldn?t be allowed to hold up immigration reform and President Obama agreed.? Having learned from the unfulfilled promises of the 1980s, most Americans demand proven border control before other actions.
No matter how much money amnesty supporters claim is spent and whatever else is claimed, the border remains uncontrolled.? ICE officials and local law enforcement around the country report how they get almost no support from this administration in dealing with illegal immigrants.? Unless the border is controlled, there will just be more infiltration of illegals, drugs, guns, and terrorists causing more harmed Americans.
A country that doesn?t control its borders will cease to exist.? A country should base immigration laws on what is good for the country as a whole, not just on what benefits politicians, and unscrupulous businessmen and union leaders at the expense of the rest of the American citizens.
